LONGwOOD GARDENS LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES
PRIVATE TOUR
June 26 ~ 11:00 AM to ….
Join WNBA Mid-Atlantic for a special chapter outing on Friday, June 26, with a private tour of the Longwood Gardens Library and Archives. Located in Kennett Square, PA, Longwood Gardens is a renowned 1,100-acre botanical garden with impeccably cared for gardens, a massive conservatory, and a spectacular fountain collection.
Hosted by Librarian Gillian Hayward, our exclusive visit to the library will explore the library’s rare book collections, its origins as Pierre du Pont’s personal library, and its role serving researchers and the public.
ATTENDEES MUST PURCHASE THEIR OWN TIMED ENTRY TICKETS! Purchase tickets in advance and early, as visitors flock to the gardens from around the world in the summer! Purchase Longwood entry tickets (Adults $35; Seniors $31) here.
The WNBA Mid-Atlantic private library tour is free for WNBA members and $15.00 for non-members. Registration required (even if you’ve purchased your Longwood Gardens entry ticket). Register here.
Our day begins with access to the gardens beginning at 10:00 AM (timed entry tickets required), followed by our 11:00 AM meet-up for the library tour at the Longwood Gardens Library and Archives.
After the library tour, we’ll gather at the café for lunch. Attendees may also make their own lunch arrangements at another Longwood Gardens restaurant (reservations required for 1906). Cost of lunch is not included.
After lunch we have full access to wander the gardens on our own and depart at our leisure any time before closing at 9:00 PM. Fountain shows in the Main Fountain Garden and the Open-Air Theatre begin at 11:00 AM, and they are mesmerizing!
While in the area, visit WNBA Regional Rep. Claire van den Broek's bookstore, Huxley & Hiro. Always a delight to visit and shop there!
Optional overnight stays are available nearby for those who wish to extend their visit. Check here for hotels in the area. Kennett Square is a charming town with great shops and restaurants, and downtown Wilmington is vibrant on Fridays and Saturdays with great restaurants and hotel choices.
Remember, buy your Longwood tickets and register for the library tour! Note: Attendees are responsible for their own transportation to Longwood.
